COMPETITION COMMENCING AT EVE Tournament 5

Welcome to the EVE Home Page!!

<img:stuff/EVEShield.jpg>

Let's skip the small talk and get right down to how the game is played...

People willing to subject themselves to the torture of the arena sign up at The Hit List. There are 16 slots - filled on a first come first serve basis. When the 16 slots are full, the page is locked and so are the contestants.

The 16 combatants are randomly divided into two teams with the roll of a 20-sided die. Odd, you're on BLACK. Even, you're on WHITE. Order combatants roll is determined by thier position on the sign up list (The Hit List). For instance, if you signed up 6th, then you will get the sixth roll.

Once the teams have been decided, we then roll an 8-sided die to determine your slot. For instance, if you roll a 5, then you are in the fifth slot on the bracket. Whoever rolls a 6 is who you will combat against in the first round. Repeated numbers are rolled again.

<img200*0:http://elftown.eu/stuff/battleplan.jpg>

Now that we know who competes against who in Round 1, we roll to find out what category you will compete with. Again, using a 20-sided die, as there are 20 categories (see Drawing Tournament Suggestions), the theme of your combat is totally random. Categories will be rolled the DAY battle begins. It is possible for two pairs of combatants to have the same category. It is also possible, but highly unlikely, for EVERYONE to roll the same category. It's all up to the dice!

Each Round will last SIX DAYS. The Tournament will last one month, with 4 Rounds. Anyone who does not submit their work after 6 days, will forfeit that round. EXCEPT for the Final Round - which will last a short, brutal FOUR DAYS and only be decided by combat. If one of the finalists should withdraw, or not complete their assignment, the next Runner up from their team will take their place. It is hoped that a new tournament will take place every 30 days.

Round 1 will focus on Pencils. Round 2 we move onto Inked pieces. Round 3 will be colored work. The 4th and Final Round will be WAR - anything goes - whatever medium you are most comfortable kicking your opponent's ass with (except photography and photomanipulation, of course).

In the Final Round, combatants will choose the category for their opponent! This will require a little strategizing on your part. KNOW YOUR ENEMY!

The Champion of each tournament will represent the best, total package, an artist can offer. We feel the diversity of categories and mediums will play to different strengths and weaknesses at various stages. And the randomness of the dice roll could make it anybody's game. We are not looking to play to any one person's strengths. The point is, if you do not know, to LEARN.

The Champion of a tournament is NOT allowed to enter the NEXT tournament. They must wait one month until the tournament following to allow someone new to dominate the playing field. They may, however, apply to be a judge at any time.

The judging will be done by a panel of anonymous, mature, impartial, prestigious, and very fair Elftowners. You may apply to be a judge through private message to [Evilmonk]. Include reason why you want to be a judge and what qualifies you to be a judge.

2006-07-18 [Evilmonk]: Well I have thought of that. I know [smakeupfx] would vote for the picture he thought was best exectued wether it was mine or not. He isn't caught up with the whole 'hurting peoples feelings' complex, when it comes to that. I think he would be a fair judge, but I am still trying to find a more solid way of judging. It would be ideal if there weren't any relations in the judging. Like my wife, that would not be very fair, she would judge true, but if it came down to her liking both pieces greatly, well guess who she would vote for. Thats rhetorical. Thats the situation I wish to avoid. I want the art to be judged for just that, the art and relation should have nothing to do with it.

2006-07-18 [Evilmonk]: I know a lot of folks are going to say it doesn't but I just dont know how much stock I put into that. I think its like hiring a convict, its one of those things that business CLAIM they won't discriminate against, but they do anyways. I am still thinking it through. Opening the polls to the public would again only turn it into 'who has the bigger friends list wins'. I am open to ANY thoughts about this, as it is becoming an issue.

2006-07-18 [Mom]: You could always pick an X amount of artist that you respect and think would vote fairly . Have them memebers of a forum and when a contest comes up notify them and have a closed poll ...one for forum members only.

2006-07-18 [Evilmonk]: Thats as good a plan as any so far. Actually I like it a lot better if I don't even know who the judges are! Someone want to be a judge wrangler? I'll pay! (In the form of fictional currency: Creds) I also thought about having a 1- 10 point system. No 9.5's or anything like that. A judge would give a rating of 1 being poor through 10 being perfection on different catagories like technique, detail, dynamics, anatomy or things like that. How does that sound?

2006-07-18 [Mom]: I feel we need to make the judging as easy as possible so they will volunteer and Vote. If its too much work they are going to shrug it off.

2006-07-18 [Evilmonk]: This is true....

2006-07-18 [Evilmonk]: I would like the Judges to be SET JUDGES though. 3 or 5 good ET folks that can be permenant judges. Volunteers will be evaluated and appreciated. ;)

2006-07-18 [Mom]: Kewl...

2006-07-18 [smakeupfx]: Oh I would be compleatly a fair judge... unless I can see how one would clearly benifit me, but yeah, other than that... compleatly fair

2006-07-18 [Evilmonk]: *slips smakeupfx 5 dollars under the table*  *head nod*  :D

2006-07-18 [Perplexity]: HO HO! I saw dat!

2006-07-18 [Evilmonk]: *looks around*Dwha!?!oh HEYYYYYYyyyyaaaaa!!!! What're you doing there honey?!

2006-07-18 [Mom]: A Fiver...damn your cheap.

2006-07-19 [Evilmonk]: Hey!? This was supposed to be a shady, back alley under the table kind of thing......where did you all come from? Uh not that we were doing anything illegal or uh anything. Nope just talking...*puts five dollars away*

2006-07-19 [Yuriona]: *nudges Evil and whispers* Hey boss, where's my cut?

2006-07-19 [Evilmonk]: *whispers* quiet you,*slap* oop...sorry. The jig is up, they're on to us. (I had an 'Old School' moment there.) =)

2006-07-19 [Yuriona]: Ooooo! I didn't know this job came with perks! xD

2006-07-21 [Remos Page]: i put in for a judges job if you like

2006-07-21 [Cia_mar]: roflol!!

2006-07-21 [Evilmonk]: Oh and it was rude of me not to respond to TheRogue's comment so I'll say this. Damn tootin I'm good enough...but will my work be good enough? It gives me goosebumps to know that I can lose just as easily as win. I'm all excited now!!! : D

2006-07-21 [Yuriona]: Good thing I keep lots of wet wipes on hand for just such an occasion. *hands moist towellette to Monk*
